Inviting submissions for un Magazine 12.1

un Projects is now calling for proposals for un Magazine 12.1, co-edited by Maddee Clark and Neika Lehman, to be published in May 2018.

In edition 12.1 of un Magazine, we begin with the following question: has decolonisation in the art world simply become another thematic? In postcolonialising Australia, are we at danger of producing another abstracted taxonomy?

Eve Tuck and Wayne Yang write:

Decolonisation brings about the repatriation of Indigenous land and life; it is not a metaphor for other things we want to do to improve our societies.

Following this, un Magazine 12.1 asserts the necessary link between theorisations of decoloniality and material consequence. In this edition, we encourage contributions from writers and artists that deal with the specifics of place. We want to explore art and cultural practices’ relationship to living and generative sites, and to develop a language around the ‘site-specific’ that accounts for where art literally stands.

We are open to a broad scope of responses to this theme, and encourage contributors to consider memorialisation, archive poetics, and the expansive roles of non-human agents. We want to know: what can art do to memorialisation, place and cultural memory? What is the role of art in legitimising, erasing and narrativising violence? How do we develop practices that bring us into encounters with place?

...

un Magazine publishes essays, interviews, artworks, creative commentary, audio and video works, and everything in between. We are open to experimental approaches within printed and online formats. All contributors are paid, with rates varying from $150 - $350.
