ed. Snack Syndicate

The publishers and editors wish to acknowledge the many Aboriginal nations across Australia whose land this issue has been produced on. Specifically, the production has taken place on the land + waters of the Kulin Nation (the Wurundjeri, Boonwurrung, Taungurong, Djajawurrung and the Wathaurung groups) around the area now known as Melbourne, and on the land + waters of the Wangal and Gadigal peoples around the area now known as Sydney. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded.

Sarah Ujmaia is a first generation Chaldean woman living/working on unceded Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung lands. Her practice is interested in negotiating and understanding the impacts of forced displacement, loss and distance that diasporas experience through the process of resettlement. Currently a PhD candidate, her research is engaged with trying to reconcile the epistemic disjuncture within the Chaldean language as a result of the gradual loss of its written form to speaking populations. She explores this through a rigorous material studio practice.
